High Quality Windows And Doors

High Quality Vinyl Windows

Vinyl windows are the most popular material for replacement windows and doors - by a lot. In fact, they make up just over 70% of the entire replacement window market. In the past, vinyl windows have gotten a bad rap for long term durability and overall quality. Today, however, there are lots of high end vinyl windows that last a "lifetime" (okay 40 years, but still) and deliver great performance numbers (numbers that go toe-to-toe with any windows on the market).

Our Vinyl Window Selections

Here are our picks for the highest quality vinyl windows. While not all of these will be available in your zip code, at least one of the following will be available in your hometown (Hawaii and Alaska may be the exception). The following are listed alphabetically.

High Quality Vinyl Doors

Just like vinyl windows, vinyl doors are the most popular material in the replacement door market. To be fair, wood clad entry doors aren't too far behind. However, when it comes to patio sliders, vinyl is the king of the castle for those same reasons as vinyl windows. They last a long time, don't kill your pocketbook, require no maintenance, and deliver some exceptional performance data.

High Quality Fiberglass Windows

Fiberglass windows are often very well made and seem to hold their performance numbers over the decades. Additionally, they can be painted (unlike vinyl windows) and this gives homeowners some flexibility with varying colors schemes over the years. The real downside with them is the cost, which can be 30% to 50% more than vinyl. Unfortunately, this puts them out of the reach of many American consumers.

Quick Sanity Check On Window Quotes

Bill I was hoping to get your opinion on something. We've started shopping for replacement vinyl windows after my wife checked out a home renovation expo, and honestly it’s been kind of a wild ride. The first company we talked to was Champion — they quoted $25k for 13 windows. Easy pass. Then Renewal by Andersen came out and somehow managed to top that with a $45k quote for the whole house, which was also an immediate no.

After that, things got a little more reasonable. Window Depot of the Upstate quoted $18,719 for Wincore 7700 windows: 12 double-hung, 2 gliders, and 2 picture windows — about $1,170 per window.

Up until this weekend, I’ll admit I didn’t really know what I was doing. I hadn’t looked into window brands or manufacturers at all, and terms like U-factor, SHGC, and VT were completely new to me. After doing some reading, it just feels strange that everyone is pushing the same Wincore 7700 window. Especially since Window Depot advertises ProVia Windows on their website. From what I’ve seen, their pricing actually seems closer to what I’d expect for ProVia Endure across the whole house — and even then, it still feels steep.

Lola, I do like Champion vinyl windows, so let's call that a possibility - except way too expensive. The Wincore 7700 is a good vinyl window, but not in the category of high quality windows and doors if I'm being honest. However, the ProVia Endure is a very high end vinyl window. Let's see how that bid comes in and how it compares to the Champion option. So once you get that, send it to me and we'll go from there!
