Winguard PGT SH 5500 Vinyl vs Apex InsigniaHi there, looking for either single or double hung windows -- one of my windows is a big picture window that is going to be expensive. So far, I have received three bids from local companies and I have no idea what to do. As an aside, I felt very comfortable with each of these companies - there was no high pressure sales from them and I thought their salesperson was pleasant.
Editor ReplyDon, those are very different bid prices. First off, I do really like the PGT SH 5500 and 5400 series, as well as the Apex Insignia options. All good quality windows. The price difference between Carrollwood and West Coast is crazy. I wouldn't be able to pull the trigger on the West Coast bid myself.
WinGuard Replacement Windows QuestionWe're replacing just 5 total windows and are upgrading from non impact to impact windows due to the codes here in Florida. upgrade to impact windows here on the coast of Florida. Currently, I am debating between Custom Window Systems and PGT WinGuard. Pricing wise, they are very close to one another with the WinGuard coming in at $1635 a piece for the CA5540 casement and CWS at $1615 each for the Hurricane Guard casement.
Site Editor's ReplyPamela, both CWS and PGT are well regarded impact window manufacturers in the state of Florida. Quality wise, they are very close with the edge in my opinion going to PGT (I also prefer their overall look to CWS). For me, this would have to come down to the installation company that will do the work. You have two strong products that are very close in quality and price. Now, you need to do the installation company comparison. By the way, the price points for each seem quite fair.
PGT Windows Cost Impact QuoteBill, we've been considering replacing our windows and doors and upgrading to impact. So we live here in Naples Florida and live approx. a mile and a half from the beach and have received three price / project quotes on the following: 12 windows, 4 sliding windows, and 2 entry doors. So happy to have found your site and I really appreciate you taking the time to help us out.
[Site Editor's Answer]Jason, whoa, those are three amazingly different price points. ES Windows doesn't get the best reviews, but if you could convince me that's their installation team would do a good job, then this would be my call. Basically, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around paying $96K to PGT for 16 replacement impact windows and two sliding doors. The Renewal By Andersen prices quote is even crazier and I didn't even consider this option as it is so expensive.
Winguard 5500 Series Impact WindowsBill, love to hear your thoughts on the following: This is on 14 impact windows that we are upgrading from non-impact.
[Site Editor's Answer]Anne, I totally agree with you on the PGT vs WeatherTite windows. Both companies do manufacture quality impact windows, but I would probably rate PGT slightly better overall than WeatherTite. So the fact that PGT is less expensive makes this an easy decision. Best of luck on the project and thanks for using our service!
ClassicVue Sliding Glass Door PricingHey Bill, I've been reading lots of your reviews and pricing, which has been invaluable as we weed through this very difficult process and one that I DO NOT want to go through ever again. At any rate, we are looking to replace two 6 foot patio sliders and an 8 foot patio slider for our home outside of Tampa. We've gotten three bids and don't have any idea which of these is the best deal. Could you give us your take? Thanks. We filled out your form and this is what we got -- I think PGT and CWS are both considered good windows right?
[Site Editor's Answer]Deborah, happy to help out and thank you for filling out the form -- this does help us provide free advice so thank you. The best option in my opinion is the PGT ClassicVue series. This is a very good patio slider and offers more value in my estimation than either of the other two options. In fact, I would say that the ClassicVue is as good or better than either the CWS Comfort Shield or the Align series. This would be my goto in this match up. Please let me know if you have any additional questions! All the best.
CWS Aria vsHi, we're going to replace 2 patio sliders and 12 windows for our home in the Northeastern section of Florida. Up to this point we have bids on Custom Window Systems using their Aria series picture windows and MI 1615 series slider doors. This bid is $11,575. Our other option is for the PGT ClassicVue picture windows and the same series patio sliding doors. This bid is for $12,925.
[Site Editor's Answer]Jessie, I definitely think the PGT project quote is my first choice. While both CWS and PGT both make very good windows and doors, I'm not sure I can say the same thing for MI Windows. I guess I'm a little confused why the company that gave you a bid didn't just go with CWS patio sliders as well. Seems odd to me.
